I had the most fantastic 4th of July weekend up in Belden CA. It was a party up in the mountains, swimming and dancing in the day with powerful DJs with amazing electric piano notes, avant garde media art and a poetic dance performance at night, it reminded me of the "I Want to Break Free" Queen video of body diving. I am in love with the psychedelic experience. This is all new to me, I didn't really go anywhere or experience life to the fullest until about a year ago.

Exotic Orchids

Orchid dangle earrings I made for my shop. I have been inspired by orchids since me and my boyfriend went to a orchid fair in SF a few months ago.

These earrings are made with crocheted silver plated wire, silver plated ear wires, moonstone beads, tiny gray pearls and lucite orchids.

handmade jewelry update

Over the past couple months I got this huge interest in handmade jewelry. I have been fooling around with a bunch of different materials. I really love natural stones and pearls with silk ribbon, I also love crocheting wire, its the easiest so far, wire wrapping is very difficult for me, because I cant get it sturdy enough, but I want to get it eventually.

I went hiking up a big mountain to get to these mushrooms. They are rare and only sprout for about two weeks, once every spring. These mushrooms are very picky about where they grow, they only grow near certain trees and they concentrate in burnt areas. I got about 5 pounds of them. These morels have been dehydrated for preservation and I will be listing them in my store.

Me and my boyfriend have been doing a lot of fun things lately. Gem hunting, a orchid show and The Academy of Sciences are just a few... and it has been very inspiring.
Lately I have been wanting to learn the craft of jewelry making, so I have been obsessing over that and spending hours looking for materials. Here is my first practice earring. I was inspired by sea creatures.

I came across another 1920s deco suitcase. Don't they just have the best Art Deco graphics? and this one has the best floral interior. I think these type of suitcases were for a child or teen. I also heard they were overnight bags or they were used for carrying your stuff to the beach.... keep a eye out....it will be for sale in my store soon.

I have accumulated some 1920s-30s clothes over this past weekend. I went to this amazing garage sale, it was full of clothes from the Victorian era to the 1930s. This woman was a huge collector and use to have a vintage clothing store in San Francisco about 20 years ago. I basically emptied my bank account, it was worth it :) I will be putting up dresses over the next few weeks in my store.

I found this 1920s tank one-piece bathing suit antiquing yesterday. It is made out of a jersey cotton I believe. I cant believe my luck, I have never found a swimsuit like this before.

I think it would also make a sexy summer party playsuit. I want to use it in a photo shoot, then I will put it in my etsy store.

I love this beautiful illustration from the 20s "a sea bird", so I thought I would try and make my own version of it, except I am not at the beach. I bought a pile of torn 40s backseam cuban heel fishnet stockings on ebay recently (I used safety pins for the holes) I found the perfect long red & white stripe top, 60s flapper style ruby necklace, awesome Irish ballet shoes and a very old black wool hat. These ballet shoes are unfortunately too tight, I will list them on ebay in about a week.

3 Black Mod deadstock Vinyl raincoats!

I found 3 deadstock late 60s or early 70s black vinyl space age rain coats from Japan recently. A few days later I watched the movie Don't Look Now directed by Nicholas Roeg and written by Daphne Du Maurier. Some of the raincoats in the movie remind me of my recent finds.

This movie is a tragic masterpiece, probably one of the best movies ever made. It takes place in Venice Italy. It is so beautifully shot, has a lot of symbolism, a climatic terrifying evil ending, so if you love horror, you will love this movie. I just bought the 70s novel, still waiting for it in the mail.

This is one of my recent purchases on ebay for dirt cheap because the economy is falling apart. If you haven't noticed, nobody is bidding on ebay, its pretty freaky.
This bra is from around the early 30s by Maidenform before cup sizes existed. Cup sizes were invented in 1935 by Warner, they called it the alphabet bra. This one fits me perfect, modern bras never fit me right.

Today on my way home from Oakland I just had the urge to go thrifting in every small town. I came across this antique shop and found three 1918 Parisian fashion magazines (Le Sourire De France)featuring partially dressed mademoiselles. The writing is all in french, so i cant read it unless I translate it, but the magazine is suppose to be humorous. I just love these illustrations by..(L. Peltier) they are so cute.

Today I got up at 6 am in the freezing cold to make sure I was in front of the line at the estate sale. I didn't sleep at all last night because I was too excited about the sale. Estate sales always feel like Christmas mornings when I was a kid. The sale was full of vintage clothes but I only picked out the gems.
I think this dress is from the 40s or early 50s, it has a very good cut and design, pale yellow floral eyelet peeks out of the skirt and it has lovely buttons. It is too loose on me, it would look way better on about a size 8. It will be in my store soon.

Old Fashion Auction!

I went to a real live auction a few days ago at a antique store. They were auctioning off over 400 things and it went on until midnight. They had food and wine. I didn't bid on anything but I bought some jewelry from a space that was clearing out 75% off.
I got a black cameo(might be Vulcanite) bow locket pin probably dating from 1880-1920 because there was a lot of cameos, bows and lockets in the Victorian era. The sash pin probably dates from between the art nouveau and art deco times. > art nouveau because of its rose decoration and art deco because of its symmetry and geometric shapes, and a vintage bow rhinestone belt buckle. Vintage and antique jewelry can be very confusing and hard to date. The back of the pin can tell a lot about its age, older pins have a > C-clasp or tube clasp.
I was talking to a lady that told me she got a beautiful black velvet coat from the 20s or 30s at starting bid in the past but then she tells me she cut it up to make doll clothes. I could not believe my ears. I could understand if it was damaged but a perfect mint item? Now I am going to have to go to every auction from now on to outbid this lady, to save the beautiful clothes.

I just have to brag about todays find. I went to Sonora CA with my mom, sister and niece for a day trip. They went to the yarn shop and I went across the street to the antique store. When I first walked in I spotted some Victorian tops and 1920s nighties, kind of out of my price range. I was browsing around looking really closely at everything, its really easy to miss something because there's so much awesome clutter. Finally I spotted these dead stock black garter stockings, I couldn't believe it and the price was really reasonable. I think these stalkings are very rare. I want to start a rare lingerie collection.

This is yesterdays find at a antique shop. The ladies at the store couldn't believe I could get it on, it was difficult, a very tight corset. During this photo shoot I couldn't breath and felt like I was going to faint. They actually had fainting rooms back in the Victorian Era. Today I went and browsed a antique store and found these vintage 40s pin-up cards by .Mutoscope that came out of a vending machine in the 40s. I got a pretty good deal on them, I think they are worth more than what I paid. Sometimes antique stores will have fair prices on some things and other things are over priced, I think it depends on the collector and what sells locally. I have been looking for pin-up ephemera for a while an it is not easy to find. I also want to start collecting more older vintage lingerie from the 20s.
I also found a Victorian jacket for a steal!

Vintage black Witch Cape

This is the cape I got when I went back to the antique fair a couple days ago. They told me it was from the 20s/30s but I think its more like from the 60s/70s looking at the lining and buttons. This is a very heavy black wool cape and it has a huge tassel hood that my whole head gets lost in. It reminds me of Giles's gothic fall 2008 collection. I still have a lot more amazing stuff to post having to do with the antique fair. So much stuff, so little time!

Today I found the most amazing stuff at a antique fair, I basically emptied my bank account because I couldn't pass up the great deals. I didn't have enough time to take pics of everything because I ran out of daylight. I will post my other findings in the next couple days. I am wearing a pink crochet lace bra with ribbons from around the 1920s and my 30s-40s corset garter girdle. I am inspired by the Risque
edwardian/flapper look. I will try and be more risque next time.

Today I went to historic
Hornitos (a small ghost-town in CA) to a annual flea market. It was a really nice one with lots of antique dealers. They were serving homemade breakfast that smelled so good but I was too busy looking at all the stuff. I decided to splurge a little and invest in some antique jewelry. I got a brooch from around 1910, a art nouveau illustrated music book from the early 1900s( surprisingly the music book didn't cost much, I just like the cover) and a 50s cigarette compact purse. I also found a lot of 40s and 50s clothing over this weekend at a estate sale.

Halloween Inspiration

I love the fall season. I am inspired by Halloween and vintage costumes. I really love these paper doll repros of the 1920s masquerade costumes. It would be almost impossible to find a real vintage costume like this. Vintage Halloween stuff for some reason is really hard to find.
I am also loving Luella's witchy look this season. I am going to try and get this look for fall, my sister is making me a wool witch hat.

Flea Market Finds

A couple days ago I found a pile of 70s wide leg high waist jeans for free at the flea market. I guess he had them for a long time and was just tired of hauling them around, so I was happy to take them off his hands. The ones I am wearing now have heart pockets, they are a little big on me, but i had to try and make them work because they are just too adorable. I will be listing these and other ones i found in my ebay store around fall, ranging from sizes small to medium.

My New Bike

I know I haven't blogged in a month, but anyways I recently got a new vintage bike, a 60s schwinn. I am so excited about it, instead of driving short distances I'm going to cycle. I bought this handy rear twin basket, which will hold groceries, packages, shopping bags, most anything you need to carry.
There are a lot benefits in cycling: saves money, good exercise and you get to travel in style, instead of driving in stressful traffic.
I don't know why i didn't get one a long time ago, probably because I live in these sprawled out suburbs, so i see riding my bike a few miles each day to run some errands is really good exercise I need, so its a win win situation.
Riding this type of bike is extra fun because it cruises smoothly and effortlessly.

Today I went to the estate sale again and i got a box of vintage patterns , a couple are vogue 60s couture patterns( Vogue Paris Original )Balmain and Molyneux. My favorites are the ruffly collars and tops. I have no idea how to sew, so i might sell them on etsy, for all the creative dressmakers out there.

Today i went to a huge estate sale, which is my favorite thing to do. i found a couple things, a 70s denim Gunne Sax maxi dress (i will put in my store sometime this summer) which was still there after i was a hour late, lucky me, and this black straw hat from the 60s, which i am so exceited about. I have been looking for a good sun hat for a while. There was a lot of hats but i couldn't afford them all, maybe i will go back tomorrow on half off day.

Todays outfit, very casual. i found the perfect black high waist skinny jeans and black leather pumps with bows in the back. today i saw this awesome lady at the grocery store, wish i had my camera with me. She had a floral dress on, she had long grey stringy hair, a beautiful dark complexion, her skin looked good for her age, she had a lot of character, she kind of look like a witch, but in a good way.

Going to the grocery store is really frustrating and annoying because all the food especially the fresh organic food is overpriced, especially in big corporate chains. I went to Savemart because its close to my house, they have the smallest organic section, all the other food in that store is basically inedible in my opinion. One time i tried to find a loaf of bread that didn't contain any high fructose corn syrup but every single brand had the syrup. Then i noticed that most of their products contain it.
Thats why i went and got a tiny tomato plant so i can grow my own organic tomatoes and it saves you a whole lot of money. i will keep you posted on how my plant is doing.
